Independent Artist

Venting & Connection

BLOG of the week

Booking gigs as an independent musician is an uphill battle, especially for women navigating an industry still rife with gender biases. Without the backing of an agency, finding honest, respectful opportunities feels like an endless struggle—many venues expect free or underpaid performances, disregarding the skill and effort involved. The pressure to maintain a sizable social media following to even be considered for shows adds another layer of frustration; it’s as if artistic merit alone isn’t enough anymore. Building meaningful communities and genuine networks is tough when the system prioritizes numbers over talent, making it harder to break through and earn the respect and compensation artists truly deserve.

Being an independent artist in today's crowded online world comes with its unique set of challenges. Despite pouring our hearts and souls into our craft and working tirelessly to create meaningful art, it often feels like we are shouting into the void, struggling to get noticed amidst the noise and saturation of content. The sheer volume of artists vying for attention can be overwhelming, making it difficult to stand out and gain the recognition we deserve. However, despite these obstacles, many of us find solace in the freedom and autonomy that comes with being independent, allowing us to pursue our artistic vision without compromising our integrity for the sake of industry standards or expectations.
